Teacher in South Cotabato 'Last Mile School' gets his wish

September 12, 2025 Marvin E. Bacos, a young teacher assigned to a last mile school in the B'laan indigenous community in the hinterland of General Santos City, became the ultimate winner of the last of three Honda Click 125 motorcycles that CBS China Bank Savings gave away in the Raffle Draw, during the National Teachers Month Kick-off in Koronadal City, South Cotabato on September 7. CBS NTM 2025 Koronadal Motorbike Turnover A visibly overwhelmed Bacos said the motorcycle will cut down travel time to Nicolas Danie-Aligado Indigenous Peoples Integrated School in the remote village of Bawing, General Santos City in South Cotabato. The school is the first in Gen. Santos City with a focus on Indigenous People's Education (IPEd), and is accessible only by rough road, occasionally impassable when the creeks overflow during heavy rains. Bacos was joined by fellow teachers Jesson A. Lechido of Tagum City's Jose Tuason Jr. Memorial National High School and Ricky C. Ignacio of Kidapawan City's Lanao Central Elementary School, who won the first two Honda motorcycles donated by CBS. These prizes were chosen as a practical measure to empower teachers by improving their mobility. DSC03509 CBS also handed brand-new laptops to teachers Airah Denissa E. Buniel (Gingoog City, Lunao Central School); Hazel Mae S. Buo (Siargao, Cambas AC Elementary School); Caren Mae E. Acosta (Butuan City School of Arts and Trades); Shandy Reina G. Sahid (Sultan Kudarat, ICS – SPED); Caroline R. Deximo (Sultan Kudarat, ICS – SPED); Idarie I. Enig (Cotabato, Manobo Elementary School); Edward A. Edon (Camiguin, Cabuan Elementary School); Elmar P. Magbanua (Zamboanga del Sur, Esperanza Elementary School); Ritchelyn B. Motoy (General Santos City, Tanda Elementary School); and Omegalyn P. Bismar (General Santos City, Maligaya Elementary School). In his keynote message, CBS President James Christian T. Dee emphasized the Bank’s dedication to empowering educators through both recognition and financial inclusion. “CBS is ready to help our educators in their financial wellness journey toward financial freedom. This is our way of giving back to the teaching community that shapes our nation’s future every day,” he said. CBS in partnership with the Department of Education is holding a Financial Wellness Roadshow for public school teachers and non-teaching staff as part of this year's National Teachers Month program. The goal of the seminars is to help DepEd personnel improve their financial wellness, promote savings consciousness and enhance creditworthiness. CBS will also participate in DepEd regional National Teachers’ Month launch activities, expected to draw thousands, on September 21 in Dumaguete and the culminating National Teachers Day celebration on October 6 in SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
