CBS Awards Car to Dumaguete City Teacher During NTM Visayas Celebration

September 29, 2025 The symbolic key to the grand raffle prize—a 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage—was turned over to teacher Mylene Encilay by CBS President James Christian T. Dee and First Vice President Niel C. Jumawan during the mid-month celebration of National Teachers' Month held in Dumaguete City on September 21. Encilay, 25, a faculty member at Hermenegilda F. Gloria National High School in Dumaguete City, was astonished to win the top prize. Her parents and siblings, whom she called to drive her home in the new car, were equally surprised. She was among more than 3,000 teacher delegates from elementary and high schools across the Visayas who participated in the ceremonies and raffle organized by the Department of Education and private sector partners. Arellano (Filomena G. Gequillana Elementary School - Negros Occidental); and Anito A. Casal (Magsaysay Memorial Elementary School - Dumaguete City). CBS also sponsored six brand-new laptops, which were won by: Jerusha May J. Real (P.G. Almendras Elementary School - Danao City); Lovelie D. Timario (Efraim M. Santibañez National High School - Passi City); Lovely G. Bacavangco (Melchor L. Nava National High School - Iloilo City); Shiela Escasa (Desiderio C. Dange, Guimaras National High School - Guimaras); Mayflor O. Abuso (Manjuyod National High School - Negros Oriental); and Ramon Barcebal Jr. (Gov. Julio V. Macuja Memorial Comprehensive High School - Antique). "CBS remains steadfast in supporting the nation's educators not just through financial services, but also by being part of initiatives that celebrates their sacrifices and contributions," CBS President James Christian T. Dee said during his remarks to DepEd officials and delegates in Dumaguete City. "By working with DepEd, we honor our teachers in ways that are meaningful and practical, ensuring they feel valued in both their professional and personal journeys." "The choice of prizes from motorcycles to laptops was a deliberate and practical gesture in support of our teachers' real-world needs," shared FVP Jumawan. "We wanted to provide tools that ease mobility, enhance digital instruction, and ultimately uplift the day-to-day realities of our public educators across the country." DepEd and CBS affirmed that their shared mission goes beyond the annual celebration—continuing efforts to empower teachers, both in the classroom and in their financial journeys, will remain a priority in the years ahead. CBS organized a triple-stop Financial Wellness Roadshow, as part of National Teachers Month, in partnership with DepEd. The roadshow shared the message of financial well-being, savings consciousness and creditworthiness to teachers and non-teaching DepEd personnel in Glan, Sarangani in Mindanao; and Dumaguete City and Iloilo City in the Visayas. CBS is gearing up for the culminating National Teachers Day celebration on October 6 in SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
