CBS to Finance Imperial Homes Solar-Powered Residences
Imperial Homes Corporation (IHC), famously known for its solar-powered affordable housing, recently inked an agreement with CBS China Bank Savings to be the home financing partner for their community projects, including green-certified mass housing, in the South Luzon area.
“CBS China Bank Savings is proud to be the financing partner of Imperial Homes Corporation which aligns sustainability agenda with the CBS Build & Rise Initiative,” CBS Housing Loans Division head Kristine C. Broadhurst said. By financing IHC customers with CBS Home Loans green-certified homes will be brought into the property mainstream, allowing more families to enjoy the benefits of resilient communities powered by renewable energy, she added.
CBS Build & Rise Initiative is the savings bank’s advocacy program to promote financial inclusion, consumer optimism and the spirit of entrepreneurship in aid of rapid economic recovery, sustainability and national resurgence. Seeking to do business sustainably, CBS is building partnerships to encourage customers to weave well-being, climate resilience and environment consideration into their process and projects.

Imperial added that the company is "building resilient communities that mitigate climate change and lift the standard of living of Filipinos with solar-powered, efficient homes using EDGE standards. We cannot think in terms of one eco-friendly building here and there. We have to think in terms of communities if we are to succeed with the sustainability agenda.”
CBS Daraga Branch Manager Allen A. Vargas, who facilitated the agreement, was motivated by his personal experience living in one of the IHC-built solar-powered units in Bicol, a region often hit by strong typhoons which have in the past deprived large areas of electricity for as long as six months.
"These solar-powered homes offer families peace of mind," Vargas said. "Economy wise, our average electric bill when we lived in a traditional house was 5,000 to 6,000 pesos a month. In the solar-powered house our bills just average 2,000 to 2,500 pesos a month, which results in a huge savings for the family."
Imperial Homes is the only developer in the Philippines that has successfully integrated solar energy and green technology at community levels. In 2019, the company committed itself to championing the Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE) green building standard of the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation (IFC). Imperial Homes has added over 2,000 of these EDGE-certified solar-powered homes out of its portfolio of 20,000 units since.
An innovation of IFC, EDGE helps property developers build and brand green building in a fast, easy and affordable way. EDGE is supported by free software that encourages solution to reduce energy, water and energy used to make building materials by at least 20%, which is the standard for EDGE certification. The Imperial Homes Tiarra residential unit, for example, has been designed to save over 70% in energy and over 40% in water consumption versus typical homes built in the Philippines.
Recently, the Federation Internationale des Administrateurs de Bien-Conselis Immobiliers (Fiabci) – Philippines, one of the world’s most prestigious real estate federations awarded Imperial Homes as 2022 Outstanding Developer in Affordable Housing.
