CBS China Bank Savings joined parent China Banking Corporation and other International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) volunteers to clear trash from the breakwater of the Manila Bay shoreline in Pasay City. The activity held on September 20 is the third consecutive year that
CBS China Bank Savings and
Chinabank participated in the
SM Cares-led annual drive to rid waterways of trash.
Why We Care
This site is 8 kilometers from the
Las Piñas-Parañaque Wetland Park (LPPWP), a 181-hectare protected area of mangroves and mudflats. The wetland park attracts some 5,000 of the 110,000 migratory shorebirds that spend the northern winter in Manila Bay. Plastic litter, mistaken for food, is a common cause of death and injury to migratory birds and marine wildlife.

A total of 65 CBS and Chinabank employees, along with their families, joined this year's
coastal cleanup at Central Park, SM By the Bay, Mall of Asia. The participation of CBS Ka-Sagwans is part of the Bank's commitment to
sustainable business practices and better environmental quality.
Aside from SM By the Bay, cleanups were conducted in 28 other SM Supermalls nationwide, in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Civil Service Commission, local government units and the non-profit
Ocean Conservancy.
This year, SM Cares'
ICC brought together 48,000 volunteers and collected 200,000 kilograms of trash, marking its largest participation in the annual cleanup since 2015.
