Retail lender CBS China Bank Savings is poised to occupy two storeys of the multi-level Fordland Annex I Building, a prime location along renowned Lacson Street. The regional flagship office will be ready to receive customers starting October 18.
The Makati-based CBS, touted as the country’s fourth largest thrift bank, was set up in September 2008 by parent China Banking Corporation to cater to under-served markets. The bank is marking its 13th year of operations with an ambitious network expansion program in the countryside.
“As an institution dedicated to financial inclusiveness and improving the quality of people’s lives, CBS aims to transform banking into an effortless, uncomplicated and trouble-free service that delights colleagues and customers alike,” CBS Branch Banking Group head Jaydee P. Caparas announced.
The new, spacious offices in the heart of the Bacolod Central Business District will include CBS Bacolod Branch, the CBS Regional Business Center for consumer and small business finance, and the office for specialized lending to public schools teachers and Department of Education employees.
With a large section of the population still outside the formal banking system, CBS has designed deposit products to make them easy to avail.
“CBS Bacolod Branch wants to make our services highly accessible and affordable to Negrenses from all walks of life,” according to CBS Bacolod Branch Manager Alvin I. Morales. “Whether you are opening your first deposit account or applying for a small business loan, CBS extends a warm welcome to you.”
“As long as you have the valid identification, you can open a basic ATM account for only 100 pesos and a checking account for as low as 3,000 pesos,” Morales said. “CBS savings and checking accounts have CBS mobile app and online banking features, which allow depositors to bank anytime, anywhere—such as transfer funds to and from other banks, pay utility bills, reload phone and GCash credits, send e-gifts, and more.”
CBS also makes affordable insurance products accessible to consumers through MCBLife, the bancassurance partner.
“We want to be in a strong position to ride the wave of growth that is expected to happen in the coming period,” explained Caparas.
The ongoing construction of the Bacolod Economic Highway is expected to improve connection between farms and markets, allowing better integration of secondary communities into the economic mainstream. CBS is confident of the impact such a development will have on the economy of the region.
CBS announced an ambitious program to expand the Bank’s brick-and-mortar presence in Visayas and Mindanao, with sales kiosk-type branches going up in Estancia, Passi City and San Jose de Buenavista in Panay, Jordan in Guimaras, Kabankalan and San Carlos City in Negros Occidental, Calbayog City in Samar, Digos City in Davao del Sur, and Glan in Sarangani.
In Luzon, CBS opened sales kiosks in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte and Iriga City, Camarines Sur. The Bank is expected to add 24 more sales kiosks to its 171-strong nationwide branch network by December 2021.
“We are determined to keep the pace of delivering both traditional and digital banking services to our customers,” stated Caparas. “CBS is here for the long haul. We are here to serve.”
