CBS China Bank Savings turned over P5.8 million in prizes and giveaways during the National Teachers Day celebration on October 5 in Bangued, Abra in the Cordillera Autonomous Region.
Simona B. Parañal, a Grade 1 teacher at Supo Elementary School, in Tubo town got the surprise of her life when she became the owner of a brand-new Toyota Innova SUV, the grand prize sponsored by the Bank. Parañal, who has been teaching for 13 years, could not believe her luck as CBS president James Christian T. Dee turned over the key to the red seven-seater SUV in the Abra Sports Complex grounds, where 3,700 DepEd teachers and non-teaching staff from around the province had gathered since sunrise.
Parañal told well-wishers that her new vehicle will fill transportation needs going from the village of Supo where she teaches, to Tubo town proper and places farther, when she and fellow teachers are required to travel for seminars and other school-related activities. It took Parañal and her co-teachers 11 hours travel time from Tubo to Bangued, for this year's National Teachers Day celebration.
Besides the Toyota Innova SUV which Parañal won, CBS also gave away 30 Honda motorcycles, 26 Dell laptops, and bags of freebies to the 3,700 teacher-delegates and guests.
"We are making a substantial gift for the greater benefit and enjoyment of the delegates at this gathering, on behalf of our grateful employees and customers whose children are entrusted to your care and guidance," according to a statement by CBS. "In the coming years, CBS is committed to closer private sector-DepEd cooperation, in line with our nationwide CBS Build and Rise Initiative that envisions and aspires to help Build and Raise a nation that enjoys common prosperity; a country where Filipinos can all pursue lives that are strongly-rooted, comfortable, and secure."
Vice President and DepEd Secretary Sara Z. Duterte, who led the day-long activities, said Abra was especially chosen for this year's celebration to help uplift spirits of the teachers in this part of the country. Abra is one of the provinces hit by the strong earthquake last July.
