CBS eyes more touchpoints with launch of 201st ATM

CBS China Bank Savings, the retail lending arm of China Banking Corporation, celebrates the unveiling of our 200th and 201st ATMs, the latest milestone in our commitment to provide an enhanced banking experience to our customers. This achievement is significant as the ATM deployment aims to offer the public more physical touch points, alongside efforts to expand reach through digital means such as the CBS Personal Mobile App. CBS believes that while digital banking is the future, it is still necessary to offer physical touch points such as ATMs and branches to ensure everyone is included in the formal financial system. In a recent statement, CBS President James Christian T. Dee said "the levels of digital literacy, as well as financial literacy in the Philippines can differ greatly, and we want to offer the public as many options as possible to get them started on their financial inclusion journey. With the second largest ATM network amongst Philippine thrift banks, CBS, the second largest thrift bank in the Philippines in terms of total assets as of June 30, is dedicated to financial inclusion as part of our contribution to nation building." The ATM network expansion is also designed to cater to public-school teachers. Twenty-one out of the 201 ATMs in CBS’ network are deployed in CBS branch-lite units (BLUs), locations where public-school teachers regularly go for their financial needs. “We want to increase the physical touch points of our teachers, to ensure that they are included in the formal financial system,” Mr. Dee announced. Last August, we on-boarded 32,000 public school teachers via the CBS GO digital app, allowing them access to the basic savings accounts, which are specially designed for teachers, and which require no opening balance. These digital savings accounts allow educators, especially those in the countryside, to use their mobile phones to deposit and transfer funds, check balances, load mobile phone and RFID credits, and pay bills by using our CBS Mobile Banking app. Currently, CBS has 92 APD lending centers and branch-lites across the country. CBS loan portfolio among teachers and non-teaching personnel in the public education sector has experienced exponential growth, with a value of P45.77 billion, as of end June 2023. Apart from the expansion of the ATM network, CBS has also been adding more branches. Three more CBS branches are set to open before the end of 2023 in Carmona, Cavite; Cauayan, Isabela; and Cabuyao, Laguna. That will push the branch total to 168 by the year’s end.
